The Patriot difference

Why families choose Patriot.

There are plenty of martial arts academies in Queen Creek now. Here's what makes us different.

Veteran-owned & operated

Founded and run by a U.S. Army combat veteran. The discipline, respect, and family-first culture are real — not a franchise slogan.

Two arts, one academy

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and authentic Machida Karate (certified under Sensei Chinzo Machida) under one roof. Train one — or both.

No contracts, no required gear

No long-term contracts, no annual fees, no testing or belt-promotion fees, and no mandatory uniform purchase. Just come train.

You'll know your coach

Small enough that every student is a name, not a number — real attention from coaches who learn your goals and your kids by name.

What we teach

Two arts. One standard.

Train one or train both. No experience needed — beginners, families, and lifelong athletes all train here, at every age and every level.

BJJ

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu

Leverage over strength. We teach gi for every age and no-gi for teens and adults — real self-defense and a full-body workout, with the curriculum and standard set by Coach Rhett, a black belt under Carlos Farias whose lineage runs straight back to the Gracie family.

Karate

Machida Karate

Authentic Machida Karate — Coach Rhett is a black belt certified directly under Sensei Chinzo Machida. Striking, real self-defense, and the discipline and focus that carry off the mat, in a belt curriculum kids can climb.

Kids & Bully-Proofing

Confidence, focus, and the skills to stay safe. Our kids learn to be protectors, not bullies, woven through both Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Machida Karate.

The Patriot method

Three things we build.

Belts and trophies are the byproduct. These are the point.

Skill

Real technique, pressure-tested against someone trying to stop you. We teach the details step by step, not theory you can't use when it counts.

Discipline

You earn your rank by showing up and doing the work. No shortcuts, no bought belts, no participation trophies.

Character

Composure under pressure, respect for the people across from you, and the confidence to carry yourself well off the mat.

Veteran-owned & operated

Be. Know. Do.

Coach Rhett served in the U.S. Army as a Field Artilleryman, and deployed as an Infantryman with the 1st Infantry Division during Operation Iraqi Freedom. He runs Patriot on the Army’s own leadership standard — Be, Know, Do: be a person of character, know your craft and keep sharpening it, and do the work while lifting up the people training next to you.

The straight deal

We'd rather earn your renewal than trap you in a contract.

Most academies bury the real cost in fees and lock-ins. We put it on the table.

No long-term contracts

Stay because it's working, not because you're locked in.

No annual fees

No surprise charge hitting your card every spring.

No belt-promotion fees

You earn your rank. We don't charge you to receive it.

No forced merchandise

Buy gear if you want it — never because you have to.

Black-belt led

Coach Rhett sets the curriculum and the standard for every class on the mat.

Family-friendly

Parents and kids train under one roof, one schedule.

Coach Rhett

William “Rhett” Sandoval has trained in martial arts for over 40 years and holds black belts in four disciplines. He is an IBJJF certified Black Belt under Carlos Farias, and earned his Machida Karate black belt directly under Sensei Chinzo Machida.

In 2000 he joined the U.S. Army as a Field Artilleryman, and deployed as an Infantryman with the 1st Infantry Division during Operation Iraqi Freedom — earning the Combat Action Badge before his honorable discharge in 2006. He runs Patriot on one idea: train people the way you'd want your own family trained.

Why people train

Why people start, and why they stay.

Most people walk in for one of two reasons: they want to defend themselves, or they want to get in shape. They stay for everything that comes with it — a clearer head after a long day, real friendships on the mat, and the confidence of knowing they can handle themselves. Kids find focus and stand a little taller at school. Some of our members compete around Arizona and Coach Rhett still does too, but you never have to. Train for whatever brought you in.
